Welcome to our Aspects of Social Diversity unit, where we will embark on a journey to explore the rich tapestry of social diversity.

In the first part, we'll navigate fundamental concepts through insights from the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly Resolution, which emphasises the ways individuals differ and how diversity influences our communities. Complementing this, we'll delve into visual narratives from a video on Social Class in the 21st century and 'A New Model of Social Class?' from the BBC's Great British Class Survey Experiment, offering unique perspectives on evolving social structures.

In the second part, our focus shifts to the gender pay gap, guided by the International Labour Organization's document, 'The Gender Gap in Employment.' We'll analyse disparities, causes, and solutions, fostering understanding of the challenges women face in the workforce.

This unit is designed to broaden perspectives, challenge preconceptions, and navigate the intricate terrain of social diversity for a more inclusive society.

Plan:

  • Unit is divided into two parts: I) to introduce the concepts related to social diversity and II) to introduce the gender pay gap.
  • Use the presentation (I) to introduce the concepts related to social diversity.
  • Complement this first part with: a) the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly resolution’, b) the video about Social Class in the 21st century and c) the A New Model of Social Class? Findings from the BBC’s Great British Class Survey Experiment
  • Then use the presentation (II) to become familiar with the concept of the gender pay gap.
  • Complement the second part with the ILO document: The gender gap in employment
